The scene opens with Dexter getting his son, Harrison, ready for bed. Until a couple of very surprising words come out of the two year old’s mouth “Daddy’s box”. This shocks Dexter into thinking his on knows about what is in that box. Dexter decides that getting a toy just like his for Harrison, will distract the child and he will forget all about “Daddy’s Box”. This episode introduces us to the sister of the quite creepy acolyte Travis. After Travis checks in on his sister, his mentor and religious zealot Professor Gellar is furious with the meeting and proceeds to burn himself, showing Travis that he is suffering for the young mans sins. Later they proceed to abduct a person on their daily run, and murder them.
Further in the episode, Dexter meets with Brother Sam, an ex-con who has turned to Jesus. Yet Dexter still senses the murder within him and proceeds to follow Brother Sam to his house. Dexter witnesses Brother Sam go into a house and shoot a man, carrying his body out and placing it in the trunk of his car. But before Dexter can take down Sam, a vicious dog appears and ruins his cover. Brother Sam comes out and Dexter proceeds to make up a story about he had left something in his car. Brother Sam takes Dexter into the garage and turns out that he in fact didn’t kill the man. He saved his life. Then a scary gangster enters the garage and points a gun at Sam. Dexter flashes his badge and tells Brother Sam that he will find the man who plans on killing him. That man soon runs into Dexter at Brother Sam’s Garage. Dexter subdues him and drags him to a near by abandoned barber shop where he straps him down in a chair. As the man awakes he admits to killing Brother Sam’s friend and tells Dexter he is a dead man. But before he can finish his sentence, Dexter slashes his throat, ending his life.
